Director of Information Technology

Position Summary The Director of Information Technology is a school wide administrative position, providing leadership for the technology team. The Director oversees the management of academic, administrative, and information technology infrastructure in the school. This involves planning, organizing, and directing the programs, services, and personnel related to information technology school-wide. Working collaboratively with the school community, the Director of Information Technology develops a vision for how information technology should enhance the teaching and learning process and improve operational efficiency. The Director of Information Technology must ensure that all ICT initiatives and resources are aligned and allocated in a manner that reflects Yokohama International School’s core values, mission, and strategic objectives.

Supervisor: Deputy Headmaster

Supervises: Chief of IT Operations, Elementary ICT Facilitator

Position Responsibilities

Academic:

• Provide ideas, guidance, and support for integration of information technology within curriculum and across disciplines.
• Provide ideas, guidance, and support for integration of information technology beyond the classroom and school day.
• Establish and approve professional development activities and presentations related to ICT and its integration in the academic program through instruction and curriculum planning.
• Motivate, encourage, and inspire faculty to employ ICT effectively and appropriately in their instruction.
• Research new and evolving technologies and determine their educational relevance.
• Facilitate productive and creative application of ICT among the student body.
• Teach ICT courses as needed.

   

Administrative

• Continue development of the YIS ICT Long Range Plan.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
• Prepare and present information to various committees
• Develop, allocate, and oversee information technology budgets.
• Oversee the logistics process to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
• Work closely with ICT staff to communicate with manufacturers, vendors, consultants, and school departments to assure proper development, installation, and operation of ICT services.
• Work collaboratively with other administrators when developing, improving, and implementing new programs.
• Chair ICT weekly meetings
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, other administrators, and the community.
• Communicate school’s ICT mission and philosophy to all constituents: students, faculty, administrators, parents, prospective families, other educational professionals, media
• Establish and assess organizational strategies for the department.
• Establish and assess information management strategies.
• Inspire interest in improving education with technology and facilitate initiative and innovation in others.

Infrastructure

• Direct long-term planning for network hardware, software, wiring, and peripherals.
• Devise, institute, and review school-wide ICT support protocols.
• Ensure accurate software licensing and inventory.
• Oversee management of computer hardware.
• Assist in the support of Keystone Student Information Systems
• Assist in the coordination of the design, construction, and maintenance of the YIS learning platform.

Database Tasks:

1. Help teachers with questions on Keystone SIS
2. Create data export sets for Naviance
3. Create data export sets for PTO
4. Create data export sets for Finalsite portal
5. Maintain SIS and help with minor database customizing tasks
   1. Teacher Access Module
      1. Sync TAM
      2. Turn off & on permission sets on TAM T1 & T2 report comment areas
   2. Create New Teachers records ksTEACHER
   3. Adjust report layouts for T1 & T2
   4. Ensure Activities show up on reports
   5. Setup GPA at the end of each semester for grade 9-12
   6. Ensure the new GPA scaling system works as planned
      1. Class of 2012 - 2010  ( 7 = 4.0 point scale)
      2. Class of 2013 (7 grades = 7 point scale)
